Polyurethane Release Agent

Fluoro Surf FG-5097 Polyurethane Release Agent

A mold release agent is a general term for chemical substances or additives used to improve demolding performance and prevent materials from adhering to metal molds.
Release agents are widely used in manufacturing fields where materials are molded into shape, such as the food industry and industrial production.

Food Industry

  • Cutters in automatic bread dividers used to divide dough before baking → liquid paraffin or vegetable wax
  • Bread and confectionery molds → vegetable oil or butter
  • Molds for foods such as takoyaki and taiyaki → vegetable oil

Industrial Applications

  • Concrete → lubricating oil, organic solvents, etc.
  • Casting → emulsified wax or water-based pigment coating agents
  • Rubber and plastics → fluoropolymer or silicone resin release agents

Release agents applied directly onto the mold surface are called external release agents, while those mixed with the material to improve demolding performance are called internal release agents.

Depending on the application field, product type, materials, and processing methods, the composition and usage of release agents may vary.

The function of a release agent is to prevent materials from adhering to the mold and to reduce friction when removing molded products from the mold.

If materials adhere to the mold, the following disadvantages may occur:

  • Reduced production speed
  • Products may not be formed according to the designed shape
  • Shortened mold service life
  • Increased workload for mold cleaning

Advantages of Proper Use of Release Agents

When release agents are used appropriately, the following benefits can be achieved:

  • Materials do not stick to molds, enabling smooth mass production
  • Products can be accurately formed according to the designed shape
  • Prevention of mechanical failures caused by material adhesion
  • Capability to mold parts with complex and fine structures

In addition to improving production efficiency, release agents provide other benefits.
For example, they can often be used multiple times and help protect molds from mold growth and stains.

Fluoropolymer release agents form an extremely thin film.
The amount transferred to molded products is very small, enabling the production of high-precision products and making secondary processing easier.

Product Example

Fluoro Surf FG-5097 is a release agent specifically developed for foamed polyurethane demolding.
It solves the common problem of rough surface finish on foamed polyurethane products, which often occurs when using conventional fluoropolymer release agents.

In addition, polyurethane resin adhesion previously made demolding difficult, but continuous demolding is now possible.

Example Comparison

Conventional oil-based release agent

  • Reapplication required after every demolding
  • Yield rate below 30%

Fluoro Surf FG-5097

  • Over 200 consecutive demolding cycles after a single application

Actual performance may vary depending on mold surface conditions and resin properties. The values shown above are for reference only and are not guaranteed.
